Additional Steps for Disaster Volunteer
STEP 1
BEGIN TRAINING: Begin by attending 3 basic level disaster responder trainings; Disaster Services: An Overview, Shelter Operations/Simuation, and Client Casework. You can view upcoming classes and register for them by accessing the following link: Disaster Services Training.
STEP 2
DSHR OVERVIEW: Once you have completed the required training you should attend a 1.5 hours overview class. This is your chance to learn everything you ever wanted to know about deployment opportunities. You can register for an upcoming overview class by accessing the following link: Disaster Services Training.
STEP 3
DSHR APPLICATION: Disaster Volunteers must also complete a Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) application and Health Status Form. Once you register for an overview class you will be emailed a DSHR application. Please complete the application prior to attending your overview class.
STEP 4
ATTEND DSHR OVERVIEW: Please bring your completed DHSR application and Health Status Form to the overview. There you will learn about the different deployment opportunities and response activities. You will select your areas of interest and will be able to join response team(s).
You will be contacted by the appropriate team leads to set your 'on call' schedule and discuss any additional training that may be required. This process can take up to 2-3 weeks.
