| How We Help 110 Years of Compassion in Action The life-saving work of the American Red Cross, Northern Nevada Chapter is made possible because of YOU! Thank you!
In 1898, Red Cross Societies were formed in several communities in Northern Nevada with the approval of Clara Barton. Women in Carson City, Wadsworth, Reno, Virginia City, Elko, Austin and Winnemucca organized local societies to support the work started by Clara Barton. In October of 1898, the first "statewide" convention was held in Reno. The lifesaving work of these pioneers continues 110 years later!
Whether the Red Cross was supporting members of the Armed Forces by collecting medical supplies and other items or encouraging volunteerism or helping victims of disasters, the humanitarian outreach of dedicated women, men and youth was evident.
Today, YOUR Red Cross continues to provide emergency assistance to families who lose their homes due to home fires; provides disaster relief to families who are impacted by flooding, earthquakes and/or wildfires; provides training in life-saving skills; and educates our community members in emergency preparedness.
