How to Volunteer

Becoming a Red Cross volunteer is easy, follow these simple steps now:


STEP 1

NEW VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION: Attend a 2 hour group orientation and speak with a volunteer liaison that can help you determine the most fulfilling opportunities for you at the Red Cross. You can find an upcoming orientation by reviewing the calendar below. 


To register for a Reno orientation please call 775-856-1000 or email us at volunteers@nevada.redcross.org.  To register for all other orientations please contact the office directly.

  • Lake Tahoe area volunteers: Please call 775-298-0180.
  • Elko area volunteers: Please call 775-753-9600.
  • Winnemucca area volunteers: Please call 775-625-1155.

STEP 2


VOLUNTEER APPLICATION: Once you register for an orientation, please download and complete the volunteer application. You will bring your completed application to the orientation.

STEP 3

BACKGROUND CHECK: All Red Cross volunteers over the age of 18 are required to pass a background check. There is no cost to you. Please visit www.mybackgroundcheck.com and click on the Red Cross logo on the bottom of the page. Apply to be a volunteer for the Northern Nevada Chapter. We will automatically receive the results.

STEP 4

ATTEND ORIENTATION: Please bring your completed application to orientation. There you will learn more about the different ways you can get involved with the American Red Cross. You will select your top areas of interest and then will be referred to the department you selected.

You will be contacted by the appropriate department to discuss opportunities, your volunteer schedule and any additional training that may be required. This process can take up to 2-3 weeks after your volunteer orientation.
