Volunteer Opportunities
Chapter Support:
Customer Service Representative Provide a warm and friendly greeting to all Red Cross visitors and callers. Respond to client inquiries, direct calls to the appropriate department, process incoming and outgoing mail.
Data Entry Enter student course records from Health & Safety classes, volunteer trainings, community presentations and youth programs into the database and print student certifications.
Disaster Services:
Disaster Action Team/DSHR Member Train to be a Red Cross disaster response volunteer. As a DAT/DSHR member you will be on the front lines of disaster response. You will respond to local and/or national emergencies and will deliver critical services to clients.
Partner Relations Support Work behind the scenes to build partnerships with local government agencies, non profit, and faith based organizations that can provide services during a response. Develop disaster training plans and negotiate agreements.
Client Caseworker Help to identify the immediate needs of individuals and families impacted by disasters and assist them with their road to recovery. Meet with clients to help provide emergency food, clothing and housing; provide financial, counseling, and health-related services and assistance and reunification or welfare information.
Logistics Support Work as a part of this team to ensure that supplies, equipment, and vendor agreements are kept in constant state of readiness. This includes inventorying shelter trailers, negotiating and updating vendor agreements, and facilitating the movement of resources during a disaster response.
Health & Mental Health Services Work with clients to ensure their physical and emotional well being after a disaster. Professional licensure is required.
Preparedness:
Community Disaster Educator Present disaster preparedness presentations to small groups in community settings. Topics may include Be Red Cross Ready, earthquake preparedness and more. Presentations are typically 20-30 minutes.
Health & Safety:
Health and Safety Instructor Train to be a Red Cross instructor. As an instructor you will teach lifesaving skills to the community at large. Classes include first aid, CPR, wilderness first aid, pet first aid and more.
Materials Support Assistant Help maintain and account for all health and safety materials and equipment. This will include cleaning the mannequins, stocking the shelves, processing inventory, and organizing materials for upcoming classes.
Youth Programs:
Youth Programs Leader Work with kids of all ages on a regular basis leading/teaching Red Cross youth programs. As a youth programs leader you will educate youth in safety, hygiene, basic aid and preparedness using Red Cross courses.
Youth Programs Advocate Introduce the community to Red Cross youth programs by tabling at community events. Interact with community members, lead children's activities and distribute preparedness information.
Youth Advisor/Mentor Serve as a liaison between the Red Cross Chapter/district office and a Red Cross Youth Club, by assisting youth with club activities and meetings. Youth Advisors will guide youth members in promoting the American Red Cross and serving their communities.
Service to Armed Forces:
SAF Administrative Assistant Provide administrative support at our SAF office located at the Plumb Lane Armory. This will include providing assistance, information and referrals to walk in clients as well as those who call in.
SAF Special Projects Support Assist in coordinating special military service projects such as Holiday Mail for Heroes and Operation Rescue Rucksack. You will organize and oversee the project from beginning to end ensuring that efforts are completed and deadlines are met.
VA Hospital Volunteers Provide support at the VA Hospital in Reno. Volunteers will assist by providing customer service in the lab, helping at meal time and monitoring hygiene practices.
Development & Special Events:
Community Events Support Did you know many people are unaware the Red Cross is here? You can help change this by working to promote Red Cross awareness within Northern NV. Help staff community outreach events such as health fairs, community fairs and more.
Fundraising Assistant At the Northern Nevada Red Cross ALL of our funds are raised locally. Help plan and coordinate special events and donor solicitation/appreciation events. Manage guest lists, solicit sponsors, design and distribute marketing materials and prepare event materials.
Gift Acknowledgement Support Help the Red Cross maintain good relations with the thousands of individuals, businesses, foundations, and organizations who donate funds to the Red Cross by sending thank you letters and/or making thank you phone calls.
Donor Prospect Research Conduct research on individual, foundation and corporate prospects for grants, donations and sponsorship. Gather the information critical for securing support for this organization.
Development Office Assistant Support Development staff through preparation of gift acknowledgments, mailings and other fundraising projects as needed.
Marketing & Public Relations:
Marketing Support Record public service announcements and develop advertisements to promote Red Cross trainings and classes. Utilize traditional and social media, email, flyers and other relevant avenues to disperse information.
Website Support Help keep our website up to date and looking good by updating web content and providing web/graphic design input and support.
Writer Write articles for Chapter publications distributed to volunteers, staff and donors. Articles may be published in newsletter and/or on the website. The opportunity to write press releases may exist for key events/activities.
Video Productions Produce video coverage of Red Cross events, projects and activities. Edit and create videos that can be utilized for promotional purposes.
Photography Provide visual coverage on events, projects, and programs. Post photos, or submit photos for posting to the Chapter website and social networking sites and/or for use in press releases.
